3D SCANNING

Craven interned under Will Rourk with Cultural Heritage Informatics at the University of Virginia Library to learn about 3D scanning and photogrammetry in 2017. Measurable models created using FARO SCENE and Geomagic Design X collected primary source data of artifacts and historic sites for their preservation.

MONTICELLO

The South Pavilion (c.1770) has also been known as the "Honeymoon Cottage" at Monticello because Thomas and Martha Jefferson lived in it before building the great house. Craven scanned it inside and out during recent excavations to document archaeological discoveries made before restoration work.

MONTPELIER

The temple folly (c.1810) at James Madison's Montpelier was scanned during restorations which uncovered the original doorway to a twenty-five-foot deep icehouse underneath. Neoclassical columns and a shingled dome beautified the utilitarian structure to make it a picturesque focal point for the surrounding landscape.
