“Would you be interested in a White House tour?” I was asked by a friend. Is the sky blue? Is the White House whisper white? No question, I was absolutely thrilled to be invited and... Wow.

Everything about the executive mansion was completely stunning. For me though, my favorite spot was in the Blue Room looking out. The Washington Monument was meant to align but its ideal site was too unstable for construction on axis. Instead, standing in that parlor, one sees a picturesque view straight down to the Jefferson Memorial built nearly one hundred years after the obelisk. Although I should have anticipated the moment, I had never really noticed how that circular colonnade so brilliantly complimented the south portico just outside. I was so awestruck that it stopped me dead in my tracks.
